While surfing on Pluto the other night (the app not the planet), I made an amazing discovery. One of their available channels is Vevo, and they have ‘80s and ’70s music videos. Before I knew it, I had spent the whole evening flipping back and forth between the two. Boy, that took me back. It was like watching MTV back in the day before it was taken over by Snookie and her lunkhead friends.
MTV launched on August 1st, 1981. The perfect juxtaposition of great songs and amazing videos turned the cable channel into an instant hit. I vividly remember visiting my friends Joe and Roy at Central Michigan University. We would sit around for hours watching MTV, talking about girls, and drinking beer. Can life get any better?
Those weekends at CMU were always a blast (and a blur). Not exactly Hot Tub Time Machine, but close. It didn’t get much better than college life in the ‘80s. The big hair, the neon colors, the great music, all gone now. Looking back on those days, I never realized how special they were.
However, if I want another blast of neon nostalgia, all I have to do is flip on Vevo and I’m back in the ‘80s again. It’s my personal time machine, and it doesn’t involve climbing into a hot tub with a bunch of naked guys. I never understood that part of Hot Tub Time Machine. I’ll pass fellas, thanks.
So, if you have access to Vevo, the ‘80s are just a couple of clicks away. All of your musical friends are waiting for you. Billy Idol and Pat Benatar say hi!
As usual, thank you for taking time out of your busy day to read this article. I hope you will continue to enjoy and follow this blog. Please feel free to share these stories with your family and friends!
